All you want to know about Shirin: Saaz te Awaaz

“Shirin” Inter School, Koshur Group Singing competition seeks to promote Kashmiri Music and Culture to be organised by Delhi Public School, Srinagar & D.P. Dhar Memorial Trust.

Schools from different districts of Kashmir Valley are participating in the event. It intends to revive the subtle taste of our traditional music that has long lost its depth and originality.


  • A group will comprise of 12 students.
  • Age: 11 years to 16 years.
  • Time: 7 minutes (including introduction)
  • Two music teachers will accompany the group.
  • Harmonium and Tabla/Dholak/Nout must be played in the performance.
  • Dress code: School uniform.


No film songs will be allowed.


Number of schools from each district will be divided into various pools. Three best teams from each pool will be short listed .


Tentative date for the competition: 1st week of August, 2015

The first round of the competition will be held at district level, the participants will present a Kashmiri Group Song of their choice.

Participants will be judged on the following parameters:

Short listed teams will have to perform in the second round.


The second round at district level will be held after one week of the 1st round.

The participants will be asked to compose one Kashmiri group song from the poetry of “Shamas Faqir, Rasul Mir, Ahad Zargar, Samad Mir, Wahab Khar, Ahmad Batwari, Shah Qalander”.

Note: The three best teams spanning across all pools will be selected from each district. These teams will then compete in the quarter final at Delhi Public School, Srinagar.
